The Winter Emperor

 

Yasan is the so-called winter Emperor. The child ruler who reigns
from Fuyukyo, the winter capital.

In Yatai, it is customary for the ruler to assume a programmatic name when he ascends the throne and so, the young emperor, under the guidance of his stepmother Lady Myuki, has assumed the name Kōgen (Source of Light).

In public he is always called by his throne name, but in private he prefers to be addressed by his real name. Although he is one year older than his brother, as his father Ryūō (Go Akira) had not yet chosen which of the two boys would ascend the throne.

Yasan is an often sad boy, little inclined to participate in court life and also not very fond of parties and debauchery. His best friends, assuming a celestial ruler is allowed to have friends, are the monk Eison and the mysterious nekomata dancer Minuyo.

Second Prince Baoren

Even as a child, Baoren (保仁, Bǎorén, Protection of the benevolence) never liked court etiquette or life in the imperial palace. Baoren has always been the nightmare of tutors and masters. Daikura Clan Sashimono
